Things I Wore (and Did) in October 2018

To say that October was kind of the best month would be an understatement — like, so many good things happened I don’t even know where to begin.

  • Celebrated Bill’s 30th birthday!
  • Saw Hamilton in Boston!
  • Took an incredible, Halloween-themed trip to Disney (full post to come)!
  • Got great news (which I can share soon)!
  • Made serious progress on a writing project!
  • Hosted a spooky dinner party!
  • Had friends over!
  • Celebrated Halloween with Obi as a Beanie Baby!
  • DID I MENTION HAMILTON AND DISNEY WORLD? I mean. COME ON. It really doesn’t get better than that, people!

I don’t want to seem like the kind of person who pretends only good things happen to her because that isn’t true. Behind the scenes, I struggled with some family things, I caught a viral infection on the way back from Disney and was out of commission for 48 hours, I worked a lot (some nights I worked, left, brought my laptop home, worked more, then did it all again the next day), I didn’t have enough time to pursue hobbies, I stressed about politics a lot, and I didn’t eat super well.

I say this not because it wasn’t an incredible month (IT WAS), but because I think it’s unrealistic to pretend like things were all good. There’s always good and bad, but I just love reminding myself of how relatively happy and fortunate I am in my life.

To start: here’s what I wore!

I’m never mad to be twinning with one of my work favorites, Kelsey. Interestingly enough, we wore these outfits on the same day not once but twice in October. We even tied our hair back both days. #FRIENDSHIP

My favorite outfit of the month because it’s suuuper 90s inspired. I had originally purchased an overall dress with this shirt, but the dress was a touch too small. I kept waiting to “lose the weight” but never did and said fuck it, I want to wear this shirt! I separated it from the dress and repurposed it and now this is one of my go-to looks.

I had a presentation to give to about 40+ people… on Halloween. I really wanted to wear my Halloween dress, but I felt like I needed to dress it up a little, so I stuck a blazer over it and rolled with it.

And, a glimpse of what I did via photos.

October, I love you always, and I’ll miss you dearly. Until next year!

Things I Wore (and Did) in May 2018

May was a truly magical month. I always tend to love May: warmer weather, longer days, and it’s my birth month so I’m very biased.

But this May was extra great. First, I was promoted at work, and as of June 4, I’m officially back in the social media realm! I’m so, so, so excited (and it’s been fantastic so far). I also had so much fun spending time with Bill and friends and Obi.

Also: I turned 30.

And, I didn’t just turn 30. I turned 30 in style. Like, as a spoiled 30-year-old princess and I loved every single second. It started with an incredible gift from Bill—meet-and-greet tickets to see my favorite drag queen, Trixie Mattel. I MEAN. I’m not exaggerating when I say that night was one of the best of my life.

If you’re a fan of RuPaul’s Drag Race, or if you’re even just a fan of Trixie, then you know she’s hysterical. I’d been dying to see one of her live shows, which mixes comedy with her folk music. Bill and I had meet-and-greet tickets to one of her shows back in September but, unfortunately, weren’t able to go. So this was everything!

Before the show, WE GOT TO MEET HER. I was so nervous that I got drunk, despite having done this once before and despite knowing she’d be perfectly lovely, which she was. I was also able to give her a gift: an adorable beaded Miss Vanjie bracelet. When I handed the bracelet over to her, rambling about how I bought it for her and didn’t make it, she put the bracelet on her wrist and said to me, “You had to buy this? You dumb bitch.”

Trixie Mattel called me a dumb bitch I expect to see that on my gravestone.

I also got to take a photo with one of my favorite local drag queens, Mia E Z’lay, who performs regularly at Drag Brunch in Holyoke, Mass., which Bill and I love to go to. It was awesome!

Then there was the show. I don’t think I’ve laughed that hard in a really long time; I laughed until my stomach hurt, until my throat ached, and until I cried, and then I laughed some more. I laughed so hard that I made friends with the (very drunk) couple in front of me who couldn’t stop laughing every time I laughed. Trixie’s show was the perfect mix of smart comedy and terrible puns, 90s music that’s so bad it’s good, skits, high-brow jokes, low-brow jokes, drag jokes, and folk music. I loved literally every single second of it, including the time I spent inhaling two bags of peanut M&Ms in between my bajillion glasses of wine.

That alone would’ve been an incredible birthday.

But then the next day Bill and I left for a seven-day cruise to the Caribbean. I KNOW. Whose life is this?!

More details on the cruise to come, but here’s what I wore during this momentous month!

Things I Wore (And Did) in February 2018

All month long, I kept telling myself I just needed to get through February and I’d be that much closer to spring—and it ended up being a lot easier than I thought! It helped that February was overall a pretty good month, with lots of fun plans.

I had brunch plans with friends; had an incredible Valentine’s Day with my husband, which included spending time in the Berkshires and Mass MoCA; celebrated Galentine’s Day with friends; enjoyed bonding time with one of my close friends, Laraine, and her son, O; visited my grandma; went house hunting for Bill’s parents (who will be returning to Connecticut soon); and saw Black Panther. Can’t really ask for much more during an otherwise dreary and cold month!

Here’s what I wore.

IMG_3408IMG_3434

This LBD from LuLaRoe is one of my favorites. I spent all last year thinking I looked best in LLR Nicole dresses and Perfect Ts… but it turns out the Julia dress is what truly has my heart. I love it! I have three Julias that are staples in my wardrobe, including this recent black purchase.

Outfit details

  • Dress: LuLaRoe Julia
  • Shrug: Forever 21
  • Tights: WeLoveColors.com
  • Boots: DSW

I rocked a version of this same outfit last month, but this time I went without leggings because it was a relatively warm day! Realizing now the bottom of the skirt was a tad wrinkly, but oh well.

Outfit details

  • Dress: Target
  • Skirt: LuLaRoe Cassie
  • Shoes: Tieks

My husband summed this outfit up best: “You Blossom-looking motherfucker.” He’s not wrong. (A friend pointed out the outfit is probably more like Six, but you get the point.)

Outfit details

  • Dress: Forever 21
  • Tights: WeLoveColors.com
  • Boots: Payless

IMG_3765

With the cold weather fading (no complaints from me!!!), I’m running out of time to wear this sweater dress, so I made the most of it.

Another warm day!

I’ve had this dress for a bit and I was so excited to wear it on March 1! It really felt like I was saying hello to spring.

Here’s a peek into what I did this month, too.

How was your month?

Outfits of September

Hello from Ireland! I’m writing in Dublin Airport on a layover to Rome. My husband and I will finally be taking our honeymoon (and dream vacation). Ahhhhh!

Outfits of the Week: May 2, 2016

How is it May already? And why is it so cold even though it’s May? Like, it’s so uncharacteristically chilly and gray and rainy and sad that I’m starting to feel like I may never see the sun again. Sun, where are you? I miss you. Come home soon.

Here’s what I wore this week.

ootd_5-2

This polka-dotted dress kicked off the week. Seeing it in this photo, I’m not sure I love it.

Outfit details

  • Dress: Modcloth
  • Cardi: Old Navy
  • Tights: We Love Colors
  • Shoes: Payless

Outfit details

  • Shirt: Old Navy
  • Tank top: Old Navy
  • Pants: Rainbow
  • Shoes: Payless

ootd_5-5

How cute is this sweater?! I found it while “shopping” in my own closet and digging through old clothes.

I felt cute enough in it to take a few selfies.

Outfit details

  • Sweater: Old Navy (like a zillion years ago)
  • Pants: Rainbow
  • Shoes: Payless

ootd_5-6

I also re-discovered this shirt, WHICH I ALSO NOW LOVE. Guys, shopping in your old, packed away clothes is the best. Everything is new again and you don’t have to spend any money!

Outfit details

  • Shirt: Fashion Bug (again, like, a zillion years ago)
  • Jeans: Old Navy
  • Shoes: Payless

Hope you had a good week!

Outfits of the Week: March 20, 2016

It’s spring.

But it snowed on Monday.

This was my face.

3-20monday4

I was not having it.

But I did love the hat I got to wear…

3-20monday3

And, it made me appreciate New England and its ever-changing weather. So there’s that.

Here’s what I wore this week!

3-20monday

Outfit details

  • Top: Old Navy
  • Tank: Old Navy
  • Pants: TJ Maxx
  • Boots: Payless
  • Necklace: Etsy, a gift from my husband

3-20tuesday

It wasn’t feeling like spring, but goddamnit, I was going to force it anyway.

Outfit details

  • Dress: Fashion to Figure
  • Leggings: Old Navy
  • Cardigan: Forever 21
  • Shoes: Payless

3-20wednesday

GUYS. These jeggings are my new favorite. I found them at Walmart (I was totally not there to shop for clothes, but these things happen, you know?). I had to resist the urge to buy 20 pairs, mostly because I’m going on vacation soon and really need to not be spending a gazillion dollars on leggings. So, I allowed myself one pair. And guess what? It rang up as $1. The clothes gods were in my favor that day, so now when I wear them, I feel extra great in them. One of my coworkers described them as “like buttah” which I loved, and I told Bill that they felt like wearing a warm hug. So good.

Outfit details

  • Leggings: Walmart
  • Top: Old Navy
  • Tank: Old Navy
  • Boots: Rainbow, I think?

3-20thursday

This was my fave outfit of the week. I love this dress! Here’s a close-up of the pattern.

HEARTS.

Hearts! And a little bow! Ahhh, I die. My work bestie described these hearts as reminiscent of the Webdings font and she could not have been more accurate.

Outfit details

  • Dress: Modcloth
  • Tights: WeLoveColors
  • Cardigan: Old Navy

3-20friday

And, to close out the week, some polka dots on polka dots action.

Outfit details

And, last (but certainly not least), my best Snapchat selfie of the week, using that filter that makes you look prettier than you are!

3-20sc3

What was the best outfit you wore this week? xo.
